AI Hackathon for Equity: Tackling Harmful Bias in the Information Ecosystem (Baltimore)

The integrity and fairness of the information we consume have never been more critical. As artificial intelligence increasingly plays a role in content creation, distribution and analysis, the risk of perpetuating biases — whether cultural, racial or gender-based — remains a significant challenge.

Join Hacks/Hackers, The Real News Network and Baltimore Beat on Thursday, October 17th for a hackathon, "AI for Equity: Tackling Harmful Bias in the Information Ecosystem." This event is focused on exploring how AI can be harnessed to identify, reduce, and ultimately eliminate bias in our news and information landscape.

Participants will work together to develop innovative AI-driven tools, frameworks and strategies aimed at ensuring that the information ecosystem remains fair, inclusive and trustworthy. By bringing together a diverse group of journalists, communicators, technologists, ethicists, civic leaders and data scientists, this event seeks to foster collaboration and create impactful solutions that can be implemented across various platforms to promote equity and discrimination-free information.

Our goals are to:

  • Develop AI-powered tools that can identify and correct biased content in our information ecosystem
  • Foster collaboration between journalists, communicators, technologists, and ethicists to address bias in the information ecosystem.
  • Promote diversity and inclusivity in AI development and deployment in media.
  • Generate actionable insights and best practices for mitigating bias using AI.
