Announcing new Connect events in SF, London & NYC

After a few months spent toiling in the Hacks/Hackers laboratory, we’re back and happy to announce the details for Connect events in San Francisco, London, and NYC. Hold the date The San Francisco event will take place on the weekend of January 22 at the startup co-working space Runway, followed by events in London on the weekend of February 5 at Rainmaking Loft, and New York City on the weekend of February 26 at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism.

Hacks/Hackers Asunción Kickoff

The global network that works for the future of journalism has found its niche in Asunción, Paraguay’s capital, since May of this year. With the support and enthusiasm of Web developers, designers, journalists, communicators, and professionals from different fields, Hacks/Hackers Asunción has launched its first activities eager to build an active community of innovators ready to take journalism to the next level. In order to spread the concept of data journalism — relatively new in Paraguay — and to discuss the implications of this emerging field, a number of introductory workshops with journalists have marked the initial stages of Hacks/Hackers Asunción.

Sharing UX/UI Design Secrets

Public Journalism Club (PJC), Armenia based NGO is inviting those interested in User experience UX, User Interface UI design – representatives of Armenian media and editors of news websites, designers, students, bloggers and journalists – to take part in a discussion-meeting, entitled “Secrets of User Interface Web Design”, which will be conducted by User experience UX, User Interface UI designers, consultants Vadz Ghazaryan, Ishkhan Adamyan and Gor Vardanyan. The meeting will take place on November 1, 2012 16:00, at 39 Yeznik Koghbatsi Street.

A new Hacks/Hackers group was successfully launched 2nd July in Canterbury, UK: @HacksHackersCTB. This first event gathered an impressive crowd of 40, with a good balance of both hacks and hackers engaging in discussions about data driven journalism. We, the organisers Tom Foster Tom Foster and Lizzie Hodgson, were very encouraged by both the standard of debate and the positive feedback from attendees. Hacks/Hackers São Paulo covers mobile, data and freedom of information July 16

A group of journalists involved with the National Association of Investigative Journalism – Abraji, led by Knight International Fellow of the International Center for Journalists, Gustavo Faleiros, is organizing the first meeting along with Everton Alvarenga, from the Open Knowlege Foundation in Brazil, and 3 other representatives from the W3C local office .

Help by Hacks/Hackers is back

Since the start of Hacks/Hackers in 2009, we’ve heard from lots of people interested in the ways journalists and developers can help each other push what’s possible at the intersection of news and technology. So we’re very pleased to kick off 2012 with the new version of Help by Hacks/Hackers, a forum for you to ask and answer any practical, forward-looking, and philosophical questions about news and media work.

10 Days Left Until Hackathon[YAN] Yerevan 2011

Public Journalism Club and Microsoft Innovation Center Armenia, the organizers of Hackathon[YAN] Yerevan contest which will take place on 17-18 December 2011, have received over 50 applications from teams willing to take part in the competition. 50 teams submitted projects that aim at solving the issues of Yerevan, Armenia’s capital. Projects will be hacking issues related to health, transportation, education, environment, problems of disabled people living in the city and tourism.
